Privacy and cookies

Last updated 25 October 2026

Short version: you can use all of OrbitLab without an account and without telling us who you are. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and your progress stays on your device.

What we will not do

  • No advertising, no ad identifiers, and no profiling for advertising - for anyone, at any age.
  • We do not sell your data and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
  • No third-party analytics and no tracking scripts run on this site.
  • We never ask for or store your exact location. A city is as precise as the sky map needs.
  • Nothing is locked behind an account. Guest mode is the whole product.

What stays on your device

Your browser saves your lessons, quiz scores, badges and streak, and your settings: language, theme, reading level and the city for the sky map. It also keeps an offline copy of the pages you open, so they work without a connection. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it, so export your progress from the dashboard first if you want to keep it.

Cookies

OrbitLab sets no cookies while you use it without an account: no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, and none from anyone else. That is why there is no cookie banner.

What reaches our server

  • Like every website, our server sees your IP address and the address of each page you open, and keeps technical logs to keep the site running and secure.
  • If something on a page breaks, your browser sends us a report with the page and the error message so we can fix it. It carries nothing about who you are.
  • To work out when the Space Station passes over, the sky page sends us the position of the city you picked, never your own position.

Other services your browser contacts

Some pages load code from two services: jsDelivr, for the 3D scenes and animations, and Plotly, for the charts in the simulator and on the Modern Astronomy page. Your browser fetches it from them directly, so, as with any website, they see your IP address and that the request came from OrbitLab. We send them nothing else.

Younger learners

OrbitLab is written for readers aged 8 to 18. Using it needs no account and no personal details, so nothing about a child is collected.
